Becoming a Member

We are always looking for people interested in joining our Association

Who Can Join?

All broadcast professionals who were recruited to AIR or Doordarshan through the UPSC, who are interested in the issues and topics we focus our efforts on, are invited to join AUPO. We are particularly looking for Members in the various regional centres of AIR & DD who are able to dedicate enough time to participate and make a difference in the Association.

Why you should join.

There are many benefits to becoming a member of our Association. Though we were recruited by the highest recruiting body - the UPSC - as specialists in our respective fields, we were never given any recognition or the privileges to which we are entitled. It has been a common practice to equate the specialist with non-specialist promotees and those brought in from the contractual cadres. The UPSC-recruited professional is often denied the right to produce programmes in the field of his specialisation. Training opportunities, coverages and participation in important seminars both in India and foreign countries are privileges to which the specialists are entitled. Even promotion opportunities as per rules are to the advantage of the UPSC-recruited programme officers.

The strength of our Association lies in our capacity to join our forces, and key members in the many offices of AIR & DD can make a vital difference to our just cause.

Most importantly, we must remember that in the changing scenario of Prasar Bharati, where recruitment can be done by the corporation, those recruited by the UPSC need to preserve their identity and special status. Otherwise, those who are subsequently recruited by the corporation can be arbitrarily placed over us.

How Can You Join?

To join, we also need your service details (year of recruitment by UPSC and discipline for which you were selected), designation and present place of posting. Please send us your contact number, address and email id at the address given at the bottom of this page.

Our annual membership fee is Rs.120/- (Rupees One Hundred and Twenty only). In addition to their Annual Membership Fee, all members are requested to send in their legal support fund (of at least Rs.500/-) by cheque or DD made out in the name of 'Treasurer, Association of UPSC-recruited Programme Officers of AIR & DD'. (Contributions from outside Delhi may be made by DD only).

AUPO since its inception has been fighting three court cases related to pay anomalies, review DPCs of promotions made from 1982 to 1989 to the post of ASD, and PEXs' right to be considered for JTS Production posts under IB(P)S. Our members should remember that our ability to fight our cases with quality lawyers depends solely on their contributions.

Who else can contribute?

The 'pay anomaly' case being spearheaded by AUPO members will benefit all those who have been Producers or Programme Executives during the period between 1978 and 1996. Since only Production Assistants and Transmission Executives have been given a notional pay hike during this period, we are fighting for a proportional pay hike that will benefit all Producers/PEXs. Hence, anybody in this category will benefit by contributing to our legal fund.

In the 'JTS Production' case, where we are fighting for inclusion of PEXs in the JTS Production cadre of IB(P)S, all PEXs stand to benefit. Hence, contributions are welcome from both UPSC-recruited PEXs as well as those promoted from the ranks of Prod. Assistant/TREX.
